It is the turn of Rafael Nadal to advance to third round of the Canadian Open at Stade Uniprix in Montreal, with a narrow victory facing his compatriot David Ferrer.
In his first match since his defeat in the quarter-finals to Roland Garros, the second seed world player took the lead 4 to 3 in the first round before seeing his opponent forfeit.
Decidedly, it was an evening for short matches at the Uniprix Stadium.
Shortly after the victory of Nadal on center court, the German Tommy Haas (20th in the world) had to forfeit his turn due to an injury to his hand. He conceded the victory to his opponent Fernando Gonzales (10th worldwide) after seeing him win the tie-break of the first round.
In late afternoon, Andy Roddick (5th in the World) dominated the Russian Igor Andreev. The champion of the Rogers Cup in 2003 defeated his opponent 6-1, 7-6 (3).
Amongst the other series heads, Juan Martin Del Potro (6th in the world) came to grips with the Czech Jan Hernych in two rounds 6-2 and 7-5.
