The Montreal Canadiens continued with their new contract signings. This
time, it is more minor signatures. The young center player Kyle Chipchura
has signed a half a million dollars deal for the next season, while the
Swedish player Andreas Engqvist, who participated in training camp of the
Canadiens last week, is also under contract with the Habs.
First choice of Montreal Canadiens in the 2004 Draft, Kyle Chipchura has
never been able to stand out among professionals. Yet, as captain of the
Hamilton Bulldogs in the American Hockey League, he led his team to the
Calder Cup in 2007.
But every time he was recalled in the NHL, Chipchura has shown that nothing
works. In 36 meetings with the Habs in 2007-2008, Kyle Chipchura has
collected only 11 points before being demoted to the AHL. Last season, he
has not done better than 3 points 13 matches, including a heavy differential
-6.
Andreas Engqvist, for his part, has evolved into the elite league in Sweden
with the formation of Djurgårdens IF. Age 21, he plays center, measuring six
feet three inches tall and weighs 196 pounds.
