The Montreal Canadiens signs Gionta, Cammalleri, Spacek and Gill

Wednesday, July 1 2009 5:10PM

The Montreal Canadiens general manager Bob Gainey did not sleep in the opening day of free market agent. Gainey did the acquisition of Czech defender Jaroslav Spacek, the winger Brian Gionta, the front player before Michael Cammalleri and defender Hal Gill.

Michael Cammalleri

Cammalleri is probably the biggest prize of Bob Gainey this season. During the 2008-09 seasons, Cammalleri has accumulated 82 points in 81 games with the Calgary Flames. At age 27 years, Mike Cammalleri will be at its 7th season in the NHL.

Brian Gionta
Brian Gionta was the pair with Scott Gomez when the New Jersey Devils won the Stanley Cup in 2003. In 7 seasons, Gionta had always played with the New Jersey Devils. He obtained 60 points in his last season. At its best season in 2005-06, he had accumulated 89 points, including 48 goals.

Hal Gill
At 6 feet 7 inches and 250 pounds, defenseman Hal Gill adds some muscle to the blue line. A former Pittsburgh Penguins, Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins, Hal Gill will begin his 11th in the next season in October.

Jaroslav Spacek:
The veteran defender, who earned 45 points in last season with the Buffalo Sabers, will strengthen the power play.  The 35-year-old Jaroslav Spacek will be in its tenth season in the NHL. He previously played for the Buffalo Sabers, the Florida Panthers, the Chicago Blackhawks, the Columbus Blue Jackets and Edmonton Oilers.
